Pure Visibility Test Drives New Visualization by HCI Designers

Pure Visibility recently supplied a visualization challenge to several students in Professor Mick McQuaid’s Information Visualization 649 course at the University of Michigan School of Information. And the results, a visualization system design for SEO Word Market Analysis by HCI Designers Jasper Liu and Li Li, were fantastic!
The Word Market Analysis is a set of proprietary processes we run to gauge the competition, search volume, and thus opportunities within a given online market. The analysis outputs a pile of data, in the form of statistics on specific queries and competitor website as well as larger categories.
Jasper Liu and Li Li first designed an interface that offered analysts the ability to use multiple views and drill down into the data. They then used Flash to create an interactive hi-fi prototype of their design.
The interface presents an overview of the data by keyword categories, visualizing the search volume as well.

Then, more detailed analysis can follow using the other views, where competition and popularity of keywords is presented simultaneously to allow visual analysis, saving analysts from scanning spreadsheets instead!

The visualization uses a bull’s eye metaphor for its most detailed view of the market, perfect for the competitive spirit required by SEO strategists.

Thanks to Mick McQuaid for providing the opportunity for our work with such talented designers, and much thanks to Jasper and Li for their fantastic effort! Stay tuned for further news on this innovation.
